NOVO Pizzeria and Wine Bar on Burrard St.

Chef Chuck Currie, my dear friend, has once again introduced me to my new favourite restaurant de jour. NOVO PIZZERIA AND WINE BAR. Chic yet unintimidating, NOVO is strategically located next to 5th avenue theatre on Burrard.

This Nouveau Italian eatery is perfect pre or après your favourite foreign film, Tuesday business lunch or that special celebration. Inspired by owners Carmine Paradiso and childhood friend Roger Visona, this restaurant is created with vision and passion. The staff are attentive and Carmine’s lovely wife Jill set the tone for a memorable evening.

I’m pretty sure my dinner mates, Chuck and his long time friend, Lawrence Saracuse, ordered 1/2 the menu but my favourite was the Burrata and roasted artichoke Pizza with fresh Basil, virgin olive oil drizzled on top finished with freshly cracked pepper….YUM YUM. ( Carmine suggested I order that)….. the best Neapolitan Pizza I’ve ever had. They make it in their stone oven in the open kitchen, so you can see it roasting right in front of you. I think the guys only had one slice each and I polished off the rest…yes I did. The Frisee salad with grilled sambuca shrimp was the perfect side.

Do give it a try, you won’t be disappointed!

Burrata is a fresh Italian cheese, made from mozzarella and cream. The outer shell is solid mozzarella while the inside contains both mozzarella and cream, giving it an unusual, soft texture. It is usually served fresh, at room temperature. The name “burrata” means “buttered” in Italian.
